Electro Beam Physical Vapor Deposition

An Electron Beam Physical Vapor Deposition (E Beam PVD) unit is available at Surface Modification Systems Inc for deposition of thin and thick coatings.

Advantages of this particular system are the large chamber; 48”W x 28.5” H x 46” D. and high power guns; 25KW. These features allow us to melt virtually any metal, alloy, cermet or ceramic and deposit it as a dense, well bonded coating.

Typical materials such as TiN, CrN as well as more exotic coatings can be deposited. Below is a comparison of E beam PVD applied ceramic coating versus plasma sprayed ceramic.

E beam aluminum oxide
(400x)
Plasma sprayed chrome oxide (400x)
