420CH
is chromium diffusion coating applied
on medium to high carbon steels for improved
wear resistance. The carbon in the steel
reacts with the chromium to form a thin
extremely hard continuous layer of chromium
carbide. Since the layer is continuous
it offers better protection than dispersed
carbides.
The nature of the process enables small
diameters and complex geometry’s
to be uniformly coated. Furthermore, the
steel may be reheat treated to offer a
hard backing (support layer) to the coating.

Typical
applications include dies, pump and valve
components, chain links, rollers and other
